Happy Halloween, everyone! In this post, I will be talking about three great movies to watch on Halloween. Each movie will have a short synopsis as well as a quick, spoiler-free review. This list will be in no particular order. Let’s get started!

The first movie, an obvious choice, is John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978). Halloween is a slasher film that follows a babysitter named Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) as she is stalked and hunted on Halloween by the masked killer Michael

Myers. The film is arguably what made the slasher genre what we know today. It is shot beautifully and has some moments that are quite frightening. This movie is truly a classic, and I highly recommend that you give it a watch if you haven’t already.

The second movie is one that I’ve already covered on this blog, Trick ’r Treat. It is an anthology film that includes multiple short stories all taking place on Halloween night. To avoid spoiling the film, I will leave the synopsis there, but just know that it is a great film. If you are interested in a deep dive, you can check it out Trick ’r Treat - All About It. Each story is good, and none of them feel weak in any way. This is another great watch for Halloween, and it has a lighter tone than the previously mentioned Halloween.

Finally, the third movie I’ve selected is Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. This one is special because it is the only PG-13 movie on the list. The story follows a group of kids who find a cursed book. Soon the book begins to write new stories, centered around each of the characters, and one by one, we see the stories unfold. Despite its milder age rating, it is still a great film. It is told in a way that is still frightening and doesn’t rely on gore. Arguably, it is more difficult to pull off a successful PG-13 horror movie, but this movie does it. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is great for Halloween, especially if you have some younger kids that aren’t quite ready for the R rated stuff just yet.

So, what do you think of my list? Are there any other Halloween movies that you think should replace some of the ones here for a Halloween movie celebration?
